“Chewies” are a critical part of your Invisalign treatment success. Using them is as important as wearing your aligners 22 hours a day. They work together by ‘massaging’ the aligner around the teeth so that they fit completely over your teeth and enable the teeth to move the maximum amount they must move so that your teeth are ready to transition to the next aligner set.
Do not use anything else in place of a chewie. They are specifically designed and approved for clear aligners. Using another product may run the risk of cracking or breaking your aligner which will incur a fee of $95 to replace the broken aligner.
Directions: With the aligners in your mouth, place the chewie between your front teeth and between your eye teeth on each side, biting down firmly on the chewie and squeeze for 10 seconds, then rest for a few seconds. Repeat this 2 more times in each spot. Do this morning and night every day.
There may be times that we will show you specific regions that you will need to focus on with the chewie. If you notice any gaps between your teeth and the aligners (aligner looks thicker in these regions) then you will need to stay in your aligner and keep using your chewie until there are no more gaps. The basic rule of thumb is use the chewie on any areas you think has a gap.
