Early orthodontic treatment
The Australian Association of Orthodontists recommends children have an orthodontic evaluation no later than seven.
Why is early treatment important?
Like most things, prevention is better than cure, and this couldn’t be truer than with children’s teeth. Establishing a regular, hygienic routine to teeth care at an early age is incredibly important for your child’s orthodontic health in later years as this could help prevent plaque build-up, which leads to cavities and gum disease.
What happens at an early treatment consultation?
At your child’s initial assessment, we will evaluate his or her teeth and jaws, and identify any problems we believe may arise as your child’s mouth continues to develop. While this growth is natural, by spotting these potential problems early, we will be able to reduce the amount of orthodontic work your child may need in later years.
If your child sucks his or her thumb, this can result in other problems, but again, we’ll be able to identify these at your child’s initial assessment and put a treatment plan in place.
Family friendly practice
At Clear Smiles Orthodontics, we understand the dentist can be a slightly scary place for children, but we work together to ensure each of our young patients is put at ease and comfortable in the dentist’s chair!
What’s more, our orthodontist, Dr Semaan, has five children so he certainly knows the importance of early orthodontic treatment!
