The number of aligners and attachments you’ll have will vary depending on the amount of work that needs to be done. Invisalign do cap the appliance cost at a level they term the comprehensive package, meaning it doesn’t cost the providing doctor more for each aligner set past a certain number of aligners but there are other costs that rise external to the cost of the Invisalign aligner trays. Typically the more complex your misalignment issues are the more aligners you will need and with more aligners comes more appointments and time with the doctor which all adds to the cost of treatment.  

• Whether you can stick to the rules 

Eating with your aligners in, being reckless with where you leave them leading to lost aligners, and anything else that affects the progress of your treatment can lead to an increase in the cost of Invisalign treatment. Replacement aligners are usually at an additional cost to the patient and failing to follow the orthodontist’s instructions could lead to an increase in the length of treatment and subsequently the time you need to spend with the doctor which may not have been included in your original treatment plan agreement.

• The experience of the orthodontist

Invisalign is a relatively new technology in modern orthodontics. Although it’s popularity has soared in recent years, some practicing orthodontists still have more trust in more traditional methods like braces. As such, if an orthodontist has a preference for using braces, they might increase the cost of Invisalign treatment to discourage new patients or simply because it requires much more of their time than compared to using braces.
